The choice of shipping carrier directly impacts the operational efficiency of an online store. However, within the Shopify ecosystem, it is not enough to select a company with competitive prices or an extensive distribution network. To truly automate the logistics process, it is essential to ensure that the carrier provides an application or integration capable of receiving store orders, creating shipping labels, printing them, and sending tracking information back to Shopify.

In this article, we bring together the main carriers operating in Portugal that, at the time of analysis, provide an easy-to-install application or can be used through a multi-carrier platform available in the Shopify App Store. Solutions that only provide pickup points, calculate shipping rates, or display a tracking page, without actually allowing shipments to be created, have been excluded.

What should a complete shipping carrier integration do?

A complete logistics integration should connect Shopify orders with the carrier’s system without requiring merchants to manually copy names, addresses, contacts, weights, and references. After the initial setup, the merchant should be able to select one or multiple orders, create the corresponding shipments, and print the labels.

In addition to label creation, the integration should return the tracking number to Shopify and update the order processing status. Ideally, it should also synchronize subsequent shipment statuses, allowing customers to follow deliveries through notifications and their order page.

Some applications are developed directly by the carrier. Others are provided by technology partners or multi-carrier platforms. Both models can provide a complete integration, although it is important to confirm beforehand the contract requirements, access credentials, and services available for the company’s account.

CTT Express Shopify integration

CTT Express

CTT Express has its own application available in the Shopify App Store. The application receives orders from the store, allows shipments to be created, generates labels, and tracks deliveries through its connection with the carrier’s systems. Printing and tracking are therefore integrated into the order fulfilment workflow within Shopify.

GLS Portugal Shopify integration

GLS Portugal

GLS Iberia provides a dedicated application for Spain and Portugal. This distinction is important because there are other GLS applications available in the Shopify App Store that are exclusively intended for markets such as Germany, Belgium, or Canada.

The GLS Iberia application allows merchants to use the commercial conditions associated with their customer account, create and print labels, and access shipment tracking information. Tracking data can be managed directly within the integration workflow, avoiding the manual entry of shipping references.

Integration:GLS Iberia for Spain and Portugal.

DPD Portugal Shopify integration

DPD Portugal

Stores working with DPD can use the WSA DPD Integration application, a solution available in the Shopify App Store for DPD business accounts in several European countries.

The application allows merchants to create labels individually or in bulk, print shipping documents, and automatically add tracking numbers to orders. It also synchronizes information related to delivery status, keeping both the store and the customer updated.

The compatibility of credentials and contracted services should be confirmed during setup, as the application uses DPD’s API and requires a valid business account.

Integration:WSA DPD Integration.

NACEX Shopify integration

NACEX

NACEX by Logista has its own application for Shopify. The solution allows stores to connect carrier services with their Shopify store, automate label generation, and track orders in real time.

The application also includes features related to returns, which can be relevant for stores with a significant volume of exchanges or collections. Before installation, it is recommended to confirm with the NACEX branch or account manager which services are available in Portugal and which credentials are required.

UPS Shopify integration

UPS

UPS can be integrated through the UPS Shipping Dashboard application. This solution connects the UPS account with Shopify without requiring merchants to directly develop an integration with the carrier’s technical interfaces.

The application synchronizes orders, creates shipments, allows bulk label printing, and associates tracking information with orders. It also includes predefined rules and values for dimensions, packaging, senders, and services, reducing the number of fields that need to be completed for each shipment.

Integration:UPS Shipping Dashboard.

FedEx Shopify integration

FedEx

For national and international operations with FedEx, one of the available options is the PH Ship Rate & Track for FedEx application, certified to work with carrier accounts.

The application allows merchants to use account-negotiated rates, print shipping labels and transport documents, prepare customs documentation, and automatically add FedEx references to Shopify orders. Tracking data is sent back to the store and can be shared with customers through fulfilment communications.

This option is particularly relevant for companies that regularly ship outside the European Union, due to the possibility of automating commercial invoices and other documents associated with customs clearance.

DHL Express Shopify integration

DHL Express

DHL Express can be integrated in Portugal through a multi-carrier platform such as Shiptimize. The application connects the Shopify store with the shipping account and centralizes label creation and order status updates.

This approach can be more practical for companies that use DHL Express together with national or Iberian carriers. Instead of installing and managing a different application for each operator, the store can process shipments through a single interface.

Integration:Shiptimize for Shopify.

Correos Express

Correos Express is also among the carriers compatible with Shiptimize. The integration allows stores to import orders, create labels from different carriers, and automatically update order statuses in Shopify.

This option can be relevant for Portuguese stores with frequent sales to Spain or with an Iberian logistics operation. The availability of services, collections, and commercial conditions will depend on the agreement established with the carrier or with the platform provider.

Integration:Correos Express integration through Shiptimize.

MRW

MRW has an official application available in the Shopify App Store capable of generating shipments and labels. However, the public description of this application mainly highlights label creation and download, without clearly presenting a complete and automatic synchronization of delivery statuses.

To meet the requirement of creating shipping labels and updating order statuses, the most complete option is integrating MRW through Shiptimize. The platform identifies MRW as a compatible carrier and combines multi-carrier label creation with automatic order status updates.

Recommended integration:MRW through Shiptimize.

Direct integration or multi-carrier platform?

A direct application is usually suitable when a store works almost exclusively with a single carrier. The merchant uses their own account, keeps negotiated rates, and accesses the specific features provided by the carrier.

A multi-carrier platform is generally more advantageous when a company uses different services depending on destination, weight, order value, or delivery timeframe. This solution allows the creation of shipping labels to be centralized and reduces the need to switch between multiple portals.

The decision should not be based only on the application's monthly cost. It is necessary to evaluate the cost per label, order limits, configuration support, bulk printing, automation rules, returns management, pickup points, and the quality of tracking synchronization.

Things to consider before installing an application

The presence of an application in the Shopify App Store does not mean that a store can immediately start shipping. In most cases, it is necessary to have a commercial agreement with the carrier and request specific integration credentials.

It is also important to confirm whether all contracted services are available in the application. Saturday deliveries, cash-on-delivery shipments, returns, island deliveries, pickup points, and international services may require additional configurations or conditions.

Before putting the integration into production, tests should be carried out with different types of orders. It is important to verify address formatting, postal codes, weight calculation, label printing, tracking number assignment, and the notifications received by the customer.

A logistics integration is only complete when the order goes through the entire flow - from Shopify to label creation and from pickup to status updates - without relying on manual information copying.

How to choose the right solution for your store?

There is no universally better carrier for every Shopify store. A company with mainly domestic deliveries will have different needs from a brand that ships fragile products, high-value orders, or goods to multiple continents.

The starting point should be the actual distribution of orders by destination, weight, volume, and value. Afterwards, carrier contracts should be compared and integrations tested to identify the solution that best fits the company’s workflow.

When operations involve complex rules, multiple warehouses, or different carriers, it may be necessary to complement the logistics application with custom integrations and connectors. A broader analysis of the store can also identify automation opportunities within online store management.

A properly planned setup reduces shipping errors, speeds up order processing, and improves the information provided to customers.
